:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from stewygirl -- Love this book about the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count : Such a great fictionalized story about the true event of the bird count. We get to follow the main character as she goes through town counting all of the birds she finds for the count. Readers learn about migration and bird calls and all sorts of fun bird spotting facts. Great for budding ornithologists and any science class. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Edwin L. Powers -- A child goes on a Christmas Bird Count : I plan to use it for the "Story for All Ages" at church, and tie it into the Audubon report on Birds on the Brink. Citizen science like the Christmas Bird Count contributed to that report. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nancy J. -- Wonderful book for young children : Using this book to read to preschoolers. It is set right near where we live, so we can recognize the places mentioned in the story. What fun! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2019 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from J -- Inventive, educational and fun to read : Great book! Inspiring for adults and children alike. - from Daniel -- VINE VOICE : A cute book describing a young girl's adventures on the annual Christmas Bird Count. ( 4.0 out of 5 stars )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Heidi Grange -- Shares the value of citizen science. : This picture book follows a young girl, her mother, and their team leader, Big Al, as they count all the birds they can find in their assigned region. Using citizen scientists, the National Audubon Society uses these "Christmas Bird Counts" to help them track bird populations around the United States. The story shows how these counts work with everyone on the team looking and listening for birds while at least one team member keeps the count. The little girl keeps the count while also using her eyes and ears to find birds they haven't counted yet. I appreciated the details the author and illustrator included about not counting birds that only one person has seen or not counting birds that might have been counted already. The illustrations show the different birds mentioned making for a kind of search-and-find aspect to the story. All-in-all a cute story about the value of hands-on science and how each person can make a difference, if he/she makes an effort. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bookish -- Wonderful book! : Bird Count is the story of a young girl named Ava, who participates in the annual Christmas bird count. She is proud to be a citizen scientist as she rides in the truck with her mom and Big Al, her team’s leader. Throughout the day they see many species of bird, including a great horned owl, red-tailed hawks, cardinals and starlings. The reader sees Ava’s notebook to the right of each illustration, and can see as she counts the birds. Ava ends the day with hot chocolate by an open fire. Bird Count is charming and informative—a great winter read for anyone, no matter the age. Additionally, the cover is fantastic—a young girl bundled up in her coat, looking through binoculars, with a chickadee resting in the upper right corner—a perfect introduction to a wonderful, wonderful book. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from Regency Reader -- An engaging entry into bird watching! : This is a great book to talk about birds, bird watching and counting! I read it to Kindergarten age students because we were interested in birds. It was a little long for them, but this would be perfect for a grade 2 (primary) classroom!
