Most of the texts have been too clinical and even more shame inducing however this book finally breaks out of that mold and brings in a sense of warmth, companionship, guidance and finally a much needed emphasis on feelings and needs. There are also some very new concepts that are spoken of outside of ACA but this is the first time there has been emphasis on these other parts. Hooray ACA for being a program that is willing to take chances and evolve as more research is done. Just an FYI I have read the red book, done the 12 steps and done the laundry list workbook and this is a very different book in the best of ways. Thank you ACA for your many gifts and guidance. I can't even handle it. : The contents of this book might be fine but it arrived reeking of cigarette smoke and other noxious odors. It's in my garage until it outgases. The book gives you exercises to connect with your inner loving parent and inner child in powerful ways. It allows you to gain knowledge on how to parent yourself in ways you have never received before. You learn what triggers your inner family so that you can be there for them and eliminate the conflictual relationships you’ve had with your inner family and those on the outside you have relationships with. I’ve read countless books and been in therapy most of my life. This book has been eye opening as I use it as an adjunct with therapy. You will work. You will dig deep.
